The Beasley Firm Attorney Re-Appointed to Disciplinary Board

by The Beasley Firm  |  April 1, 2021  |

Every lawyer has a duty to fight for justice, not just for their clients but for the community as a whole. Attorney Dion G. Rassias is proud to accept his re-appointment to the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board, where he will work with 11 other professionals to ensure the lawyers in our state meet ethical standards. The Disciplinary Board has been overseeing our state’s attorneys for nearly 50 years. Its members are appointed to 3-year terms by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia Personal Injury Lawyers

A Tradition of Service

Dion first started working with the Disciplinary Board in 2010 as a hearing officer, where he conducted the trials of lawyers accused of bad behavior. In 2018, he received an appointment to the Board. At the beginning of 2019, Dion became the Chair of the Rules Committee. With his original 3-year term drawing to a close, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania has asked him to continue serving through 2024.

Dion’s commitment to Pennsylvania’s legal community predates his work with the Disciplinary Board. In 2001, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania appointed him to the Appellate Court Procedural Rules Committee. In 2004, our state Senate appointed him to the Joint State Government Commission Task Force on Real Property Law. In 2010, he joined another Joint Commission with the goal of improving our criminal justice system. He is also a Judge Pro Tempore for Philadelphia County’s Court of Common Pleas.

His longstanding commitment to improving Pennsylvania’s laws and justice system has earned Dion public recognition and gratitude. He is truly happy to see his experience making a difference for our communities.

What Does the Disciplinary Board Do?

Over 100,000 attorneys are admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, which means a fair amount of oversight is necessary. The Disciplinary Board oversees licensing requirements for attorneys and handles ethics complaints. In 2020, the Board:

  • Disbarred 30 lawyers
  • Suspended 47 lawyers and granted 15 emergency temporary suspensions
  • Publicly reprimanded 14 lawyers and privately reprimanded 7
  • Informally admonished 35 lawyers

Such actions are necessary to keep our courts running smoothly and to ensure unethical lawyers do not harm individual clients or our justice system as a whole.

The Board also educates lawyers and students; tracks new admissions to the Pennsylvania bar; and appoints its members to committees to consider new and better ways to serve the legal community.

The Beasley Firm Cares About Our Communities

Our attorneys have always cared about more than just winning cases. Founding attorney Jim Beasley found a chance to give back by creating a scholarship fund for the Temple University Law School. His gift was one of the largest ever made to any law school. In thanks, the program was renamed The James E. Beasley School of Law of Temple University.

Every member of our team strives to emulate Jim’s generosity in all we do. Whether we are taking on charitable giving initiatives or devoting ourselves to organizations like the Disciplinary Board that serve others, we are all a part of keeping Jim’s vision alive.
