The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today a voluntary recall of the Metoo table-top clip on chairs that were manufactured in China. Approximately 54,000 table-top chairs were sold at Target, Buy Buy Baby, Toys R Us, Philandteds.com, Amazon.com, as well as other online retailers. Parents should also be aware that the chairs could be sold secondhand at yard sales or flea markets.
Phil & Teds and the CPSC have received at least 19 reports of the chairs falling off of the table surface. As the chair slides off of the table, a child’s fingers can get caught in between the bar and clamping mechanism, causing lacerations or an amputation. In addition, a fall can also lead to fractures or a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an infant or toddler. It is believed that worn or missing clamp pads could cause the chair to slip off of various table surfaces.
Unfortunately, many parents or grandparents may not see the recall of the table-top chairs. Please pass the information on to parents of infants and toddlers so they are aware of the potential dangers and product defects associated with these chairs.
